Level 1 German modules develop ability to work independently, & build on skills with advanced practice in oral & written communication; German grammar; German society & historical contexts (taught in German). Level 2&3, all students take a core mod in German language. 3rd yr is spent abroad. Level 1 music students take 8 half modules in Responses to Music, Music of the World; modules in performance & elements of original & style composition & case studies in the history of Western music. Level 2&3 offers a wide range of choices, inc. modules in the history of music, techniques of music & language of music.

Assessment method
Assessment is by written examination for the level 1 modules in Critical Responses and Western Music and in part for the level 2 history modules. Other level 2 and 3 modules are assessed by a project and other forms of assessment such as essays, compositions in particular styles, and oral presentations. The performance module is assessed by a short recital.
