The GCE Single Award involves studying 3 units each year, the GCE Double Award 6 units each year. In the first year you will study the following mandatory units: 1. Using ICT to communicate - (Double and Single) 2. How organisations use ICT - (Double and Single) 3. ICT solutions for individuals and society - (Double and Single) 4. System specification and configuration - (Double only). There will be 2 Optional Units for the Double Award only from: 1. Problem solving using ICT 2. Software development 3. Communicating using computers 4. Introduction to programming. In the Second year, as well as 'Working to a brief' there will be the opportunity to study 2 other units for the Single Award, and 5 other units for the Double Award from the following: 1. Numerical modelling using spreadsheets 2. Interactive multimedia products 3. Publishing 4. Artwork and imaging 5. Developing and creating websites 6. Software development 7. Networking solutions 8. Program design, production and testing 9. Database design 10. Developing and maintaining ICT systems for users 11. ICT solutions for people with individual needs. You will work in many different ways, which could included: 1. Working on your own or as part of a team 2. Doing short projects or longer assignments 3. Using the Internet to find information 4. Looking at processes and products either in local companies or through case studies 5. Planning and organising events 6. Designing products and service 7. Getting work experience.

Entry Requirements
To do an Applied GCE/Double Award you will need 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Must include Grade C in Maths or English Language with a D in the other, or a merit in GNVQ Intermediate plus C in Maths or English with a D in the other, or 4 Level 2 credits at C&G7262 plus C in Maths or English with a D in the other.
