This programme allows students to achieve a professional counselling qualification while developing a high level of interpersonal, communication, counselling and analytical skills which are transferable to many work areas. As well as completing theoretical work, learners undertake hundred hours of contracted counselling with supervision to enhance their learning. They will study units including Ethical Issues; Advanced Skills; Personal Development; Person Centred Theory; Counselling Theories; Supervision; Contemporary Issues.

Assessment method
There are set assignments for each unit as well as a weekly reflective journal to be completed. Self, peer and tutor assessment takes place when they are engaging in counselling activities.

Entry Requirements
Candidates will require 120 hours of previous counselling training, for example a Level 3 Certificate. Admission is by interview. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an understanding of counselling theory and practice sufficient to enable them to embark on the advanced level of study at level 4. Basic word processing skills and three GCSEs including English at grade C or above is required. Applicants must also have an appropriate setting in which to practice counselling, paid or voluntary, with supervision and may be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau check.

The six Learning Centres are at the heart of the learning experience for students. They have a wide range of resources to help you study and learn in a way that suits you. They have an increasing electronic collection available off campus which means you can use their resources where it suits you. An exciting range of meals and snacks are available in the refectories. In the Town Centre Campus, there is the Eastwood Refectory and Scoffs Diner in the Clifton building, while there is the Bistro at Rother Valley Campus. Vending machines are also located at both campuses. The College boasts an excellent gourmet restaurant, The Wharncliffe, which the learners staff, working in both the kitchens and the restaurant. The College is fully committed to creating a supportive and enriching environment to meet the needs of all learners so that everyone in the College has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Childcare facilities are available to children in the age group of two and five years.
