Course info
This course is suitable for drug or alcohol workers who wish to improve their practice and gain accreditation in using this evidence based approach. The course combines theory and practice to meet the assessment criteria by developing their understanding of motivational interviewing philosophy and key concepts including ambivalence and motivation; exploring their own experiences of working with pre-contemplative and contemplative clients, their feelings and coping strategies; practising motivational interviewing skills in role play exercises to develop competence in the approach; producing an individual action plan to ensure quality in their work.

Entry Requirements
Students not currently work in the drug and alcohol field they need to successfully complete drugs awareness OCN level 2 or 3, counselling skills OCN level 2.
